Deion Jamison, who is an English teacher at Legacy Early College, has been named the 2023 South Carolina Teacher of the Year. His work has been recognized nationally with the National Council of Teachers of English’s Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award. He is also the recipient of Teach For America’s Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teacher Leadership Award.

Meet Mary Katherine Pittman, CCI alumna and strategic policy advisor in the Office of the Governor for the state of Alabama. She graduated from FSU in 2017 with her bachelor’s degree in media/communication studies. From there, she obtained her master’s degree in public administration from Auburn University in 2019. After completing her master’s, she spent two years as an educator in South Carolina with the Teach For America program.
