Madeline Brawley has been named the Colleton County School District Teacher of the Year. She is a graduate of Auburn University and came to Colleton through the Teach For America program. She writes in her application for Teacher of the Year that “being genuine and transparent with her students is essential to building trust.”
Ashley Stark, a Lake City High School teacher, has been named the Florence School District 3’s Teacher of the Year. The two other finalists for the award were Melva Brown, who teaches English at Panther Academy, and Gariel Pierce, a fourth-grade [TFASC] teacher at Main Street Elementary School.
Teachers around the country are preparing for the upcoming school year. For one first-time teacher in Timmonsville, that means returning to the school he attended as a student. Titus Echols, who is part of Teach For America, hopes he can use this common ground to connect with his class.
