An Orangeburg native has been named the first Black male S.C. Teacher of the Year. Deion Jamison, an English teacher at Legacy Early College in Greenville, is also the first public school charter teacher to earn the annual award.
Deion Jamison, an English teacher at Legacy Early College, is the 2023 South Carolina Teacher of the Year. His work has been recognized nationally with the National Council of Teachers of English’s Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award. He is also the recipient of Teach For America’s Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teacher Leadership Award.
